Lying on Whoopi Goldberg may cost you some money

It’s not a good thing to lie on Whoooopi because it may cost you money. Just ask use-to-be fake news writer James McDaniel.

McDaniel had the bright idea to write article on his site, the UndergroundNewsReport, titled “Whoopi Goldberg: Navy SEAL Widow was "Looking for Attention."

Before all of the hell broke loose over the story, McDaniel told PolitiFact that 1 million people had viewed his site and that he had made $615 during the first week and a half after the site became active.

Stop for a moment and just imagine the amount of money McDaniel would’ve made if he hadn’t written that article about Whoooopi.

With the page views and ads, it would’ve been easy for him to bring home at least $100,000 per year from Google Ads and to quit his job as a nutritionist down in Costa Rica.

For his part, McDaniel tried to right his wrong by placing up a disclaimer, letting folks know that he was just joking. Unfortunately for him, that didn’t make Ms. Goldberg any happier.

She let it be known that she didn’t like the fact that McDaniel had lied on her like a cross tire.

According to Whoooopi, the fact that she had to pay folks to exercise their 2nd Amendment right in order to protect she and her family members’ 1st Amendment right to life is why she’s suing McDaniel.

Buzzfeed quoted Ms. Goldberg as saying on The View, “If I hadn’t been made aware of this, I could have found out about this at the end of the barrel of a gun…Sir, the fact that you don’t give a crap that it endangered me is unconscionable. I’m gonna get my lawyer and I’m coming for you.”

McDaniel told Buzzfeed’s Jane Lytvynenko that he doesn’t know what all of the fuss is about.

In all of his years of living, McDaniel said that he has never ever HEARD-of a famous person suffering from an ass whupping because of fake news.

Or, as he said to Lytvynenko, “In all the fake news that’s going on right now, I can’t recall a single case where celebrity has been attacked as a result of a fake news story. In my mind, it sounds like she’s very frustrated.”

Whoooopi has every reason to be, as McDaniel says, "frustrated."  Before he commented to Buzzfeed about this entire shit-uation, McDaniel acknowledged to PolitiFact’s Joshua Gillin that his fake news story about Whoooopi was messed up.

This is what McDaniel told Gillin, “I might have carried on a bit longer because I was having fun, but people took the Whoopi Goldberg story so seriously and it had gotten so big I thought I had better pull the plug.” Here, McDaniel acknowledges the danger Ms. Goldberg was placed in as a result of his story.

As he said, the story “had gotten so big I thought I had better pull the plug.” And when a person pulls “the plug” on something, he is ending that which he’s pulling the plug on. The fact that he “pull the plug” on the Whoooopi story says he knows the story was doing what Whoooopi said it had done, which was “endangering” her.

There is also the common question of “why did he do what he did in the first place?” According to McDaniel, he was just having fun, seeing how dumb Donald Trump’s supporters are. McDaniel told Gillin, “I was surprised by how gullible the people in the Trump groups were, but as I continued to write ridiculous things they just kept getting shared and I kept drawing more viewers. I saw how many fake ridiculous stories were making rounds in these groups and just wanted to see how ridiculous they could get.”

Unfortunately for McDaniel, stirring up crazy folks is not a defense to writing what a person knows is a lie.

And although it is true that celebrities have a higher mountain to climb when proving defamation, McDaniel’s mouth is making it easier for Whoooopi to win and take the little bit of money he has.
